This ASU sorority took a lot of selfies at a Diamondbacks game, which is perfectly fine

At Wednesday’s game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies, cameras caught these Arizona State University sorority girls taking selfies during the game:

And you know what? This is wonderful. Sports fans should be able to have fun in their own way, whether it be by dancing or taking selfies. And we should not only respect these moments, but appreciate that they exist. Sure, you paid money to watch a sports game, but all the miscellaneous stuff ought to be a delightful bonus that you didn’t pay for.

You might be the type of person that looks at that selfie moment and thinks about chastising or mocking these women. But that’s a really mean-spirited and sexist thing to do. Don’t stoop to the level of these commentators and make stereotypical narration/voice-over jokes at their expense. Especially when there’s a TV banner ad asking fans to tweet a hashtag and share “fan photos,” which can include, you know, selfies:

Also, it makes total sense for baseball fans to spend time taking selfies. Baseball is paced slowly enough for that. So is NASCAR, football, soccer, golf. Even basketball and hockey have periodical breaks for selfie opportunities. The point is, taking selfies is a fine thing to do. Selfie sticks are okay, too. There’s no correct way to experience a sporting event. The only wrong way is not experiencing one at all.

The sorority sisters, to their credit, handled the attention gracefully (via Reddit). The Diamondbacks and their broadcasting partner offered them free tickets, a gift they forwarded to a non-profit helping victims of domestic violence and their families:
