The history of the bat flip in the United States is well-documented, but what many don’t know is that the first bat flip in North America didn’t occur in the US. No, my friends. That achievement resides with our northern neighbors.
Leif Eriksson founded a great tradition of Canadian bat flipping
That’s right, Canada. The Great White North has a very rich history of bat flips. Let’s look back at some of their most famous ones.
Circa 1000: Leif Eriksson lands in Newfoundland
1814: The Burning of Washington (TL;DR - Canada basically rolled into Washington, burned down the White House and left)
1867: Canada’s birthday
1917: The National Hockey League is founded
1920: The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is founded
1962: Trans Canada Highway officially opens
1974: Jonah Keri is born, dooming baseball players everywhere.

1981: The Canadarm, Canada’s most famous robotic and technological achievement, makes its space shuttle debut (basically an arm attached to the space shuttle for the sole purpose of bat flipping).
1984: Wayne Gretzky, of ProStars fame, wins his first Stanley Cup.
