In the 1993 movie Rookie of the Year, Henry Rowengartner took the mound for the Chicago Cubs in a pivotal game against the New York Mets at Wrigley Field. The same scene will play out Wednesday night in Chicago, minus a 12-year-old pitching for the Cubs. Rowengartner is on hand, however, as actor Thomas Nicholas is at Wrigley field wearing a custom Cubs “Rowengartner” jersey.

Unfortunately for the Cubs, he won’t be pitching.

— MLB (@MLB) October 21, 2015 While Nicholas has attended Cubs games since starring in the movie, this is the first time he’s ever done it while fully embracing his role as Henry Rowengartner.
“I’ve never done that,” Nicholas said, via ESPN. “I haven’t worn a Rowengartner jersey since the movie, but I feel like we kind of need it right now. It’s kind of like my rally cap.”
Nicholas said he hopes wearing the Rowengartner jersey will bring the Cubs some good luck. Maybe the Cubs pitchers will be inspired and Jason Hammel will strike out Yoenis Cespedes with a floater pitch.
