Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has long since transcended surnames. In more than two decades of professional cricket, including 24 years representing India, he set a number of batting records, scoring the most runs and highest number of centuries in the history of international cricket. He is known throughout India as “the God of Cricket.”
Indian cricket fans are mad at an airline for not knowing a famous cricketer’s last name

So when a Twitter gripe prompted British Airways to ask for Tendulkar’s last name -- presumably a boilerplate response to all complaints, whether from celebrities or not -- cricket fans were nonplussed.
