When teams are down by a few points and are forced to shoot free throws, more often than not they’ll try to intentionally miss one in order to grab the rebound and throw it back up for two. This, of course, never really goes as planned but we still commend the players for giving it their all and being clever with the limited time they have.
But it finally happened in Russia! Former Ohio University player D.J. Cooper was shooting his last free throw for Krasny Oktyabr. Knowing that a single point wouldn’t do much, he hurled the ball towards the backboard and he somehow got it thanks to a rebound attempt by an opposing ČEZ Basketball Nymburk player.
Still, there was only one second left in the game. No matter. Cooper did his best Derek Fisher and threw up a fadeaway prayer. It worked! They were tied.
The teams then headed to overtime and Krasny Oktyabr came up with the win! This just goes to show that even though this won’t work 99.9% of the time, everyone should still attempt it for that 0.1% chance that it goes down just like they drew it up.
