A Costa Rican soccer commentator criticized a ref so much he got red carded

During a soccer match between Coto Brus and Barrio Mexico, color commentator Henry de Jesus Diaz criticized the referee for being “terrible.” According to ESPN FC, his assistant heard Diaz and reported him to the ref. The ref then gave Diaz a red card, which apparently you can do.

Understandably, the commentators were really confused and gave some slight chuckles, probably thinking it was a joke. But ultimately, Diaz followed orders and left the stadium, because “the referee threatened to have the game called off entirely.”

Just imagine all the drama that would happen on TV if referees from other sports did this.
