— College GameDay (@CollegeGameDay) November 7, 2015 5 things wrong with this abysmal Alabama ‘Star Wars’ sign

There’s a new Star Wars movie coming out. Maybe you heard. This means that Star Wars signs will be a feature of College GameDay all year long, and this Alabama attempt might be the worst GameDay sign of the entire season. Here’s why:
1. It explains its own pun.
“Come to the Dark Tide!” is a vaguely funny concept. Executed perfectly it’s a solid C-. However, that parenthetical “Crimson” is so sad it makes me cry. Who are you trying to help? Did you think America wouldn’t get it? We didn’t need the (Crimson). Nobody needed it. You explained your pun. That’s the cardinal sin on making a pun, which is already a cardinal sin.
2. IT MAKES NO SENSE!
Let’s chat about Star Wars for a second. This sequence comes from The Empire Strikes Back, when Luke Skywalker is at his absolute lowest moment. He’s just had his hand cut off by Darth Vader, and the physical anguish is only surpassed by the emotionally crippling reveal that Vader is Luke’s father.
This nadir in Luke’s arc happens in the second movie. There’s an ENTIRE MOVIE after this, and if you remember correctly, Darth Vader absolutely 100 percent dies in the end. He’s killed trying to save Luke from Emperor Palpatine.
So, this Alabama fan is saying that TCU will win in the end and Bama will be defeated.
3. Pointless ancillary football photos.
This is a lot like problem No. 1, in that this Alabama fan is concerned people won’t get it. It’s almost like he worried that nobody would get that this is a football sign, so he decided to put two football photos at the end to scream “FOOTBALL.”
4. IT MAKES NO SENSE! part 2
When the Emperor said, “Let the hate flow through you,” it happened a full movie later, in Return of the Jedi. He was hoping that Luke would give into his anger and emotion, fall to the dark side and become a Sith. Had Luke turned he would have killed Vader after kicking him down the stairs and assumed his mantle.
So, again, the conclusion of this is Alabama dying and TCU prevailing.
5. Who exactly is the Emperor in this situation?
Is it supposed to be Nick Saban? If so, why does he want Alabama to be killed by TCU? “It only makes me stronger” isn’t even a line from the movie. This was Bama fan’s attempt to modify George Lucas’ script.
Saban makes no sense. Anyone else representing Alabama makes no sense. Is it the NCAA? No ... because the Playoff would MUCH rather have a school Alabama’s size and breadth than TCU. Who is getting stronger?
* * *
So there you have it. This sign was an affront to Star Wars AND Alabama. In fact, the only entity that came out on top in all of this was TCU. firstly, because the sign backfired and it’s hilarious, and secondly, because the sign absolutely positively 100 percent says that TCU will win in the end.
