John Oliver explains why Washington’s NFL team name is categorically different from MILF WEED

James Dator has been covering a wide range of sports for SB Nation for over a decade, with a special focus on the NFL.
Dan Snyder and the Washington NFL team are fighting tooth and nail in court to uphold their copyright of the nickname “Redskins.” To do this they employed a bizarre technique: Naming other offensive trademarks that are allowed. These trademarks were HILARIOUS and included industry luminaries like “Dick Balls” and “Laughing my Vagina Off.”
Oliver mocked Snyder and his organization’s defense on Last Week Tonight but he also made the perfect point on the situation:
”Maybe the most obnoxious part of the Redskins’ entire 82-page appeal is when they argued, “Just about everything is potentially disparaging to someone...” because A: No it isn’t, and B: THAT’S NOT THE F***ING POINT! The word ‘Redskins’ isn’t “potentially disparaging to someone,” it is currently disparaging to specific individuals. Not matter how many times you try and deny it.”
Oliver also has one heck of a good idea for your next fantasy football team name.
