76ers’ Isaiah Canaan redefines the phrase ‘catch-and-shoot’ on wild shot

We don’t even care if he called glass. This is awesome.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The most broken play imaginable worked out. Hollis Thompson needed to jump and realized he couldn't land with it, so he threw it in mid-air to Isaiah Canaan. He realized he couldn't catch it, and just knocked it into the air. THEN he realized the clock was running down, and that even if he caught it, he had to launch a shot while in mid-air. Somehow it worked.

This looks like a three, but the referees ruled that Canaan planted his foot inside the line on the jump, which looks right. We’re used to seeing people have the ball in their hands when they jump to shoot a ball, so it was a bit confusing, but that’s the right ruling.
