Dean Smith left $200 to every one of his lettermen for ‘a dinner out’
A final, touching gesture from a beloved and legendary coach.

Smith Revocable Trust, confirmed with SB Nation that the letter and the check are indeed real, as this was something that Smith set up prior to his passing. Breedlove said that UNC was “instrumental” in helping all of the letters get to their destinations.
In total, “about 180” of the letters were sent out, to every letterman that ever played under the legendary University of North Carolina coach.
