Red Sox sign creator of ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to honorary contract
Former Boston College baseball captain Pete Frates is now a lifetime member of the Boston Red Sox.

On Monday, as part of the festivities during their home opener, the Red Sox honored ALS Ice Bucket Challenge creator and Massachusetts native Pete Frates by signing him to a lifetime contract. Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington presented the contract to Frates on the field as part of the opening ceremonies at Fenway Park. As the Boston Herald explains:
“With everything he’s gone through, there’s been a pretty strong connection with the Red Sox,” said manager John Farrell. “We weren’t aware there was going to be the honorary contract signed. I thought it was a great gesture on the part of Ben and the organization.”
Very cool gesture from the organization to honor Frates.
