Melissa Dohme of Clearwater, Florida, is a a survivor of a gruesome incident of domestic abuse. She was stabbed 32 times by an ex-boyfriend, but saved by a team of paramedics, including Cameron Hill. On Monday night, Dohme threw the opening pitch at the Tampa Bay Rays game, but when she looked down at the ball, she noticed four words written on it: “Will You Marry Me?”
Dohme and Hill started dating after her miraculous recovery and inspiring story of triumph over her injuries. Dohme returned to school, travelled Europe, and became an advocate for domestic violence survivors after flatlining four times in the hospital and sustaining severe nerve damage. She started dating Hill when he came to see her speak following her recovery.
She threw the first pitch at the Rays game on behalf of Hands Across The Bay, a nonprofit for Tampa Bay families. Hill ran out on the field to hand her the ball, and despite the shock of the proposal, she still managed to throw the first pitch.
Oh, and don’t worry, she said yes:
