Matthew Dellavedova is getting more famous (or infamous, if your team ever faced him in the playoffs) with each subsequent NBA Finals game, which is something his Australian hometown of Maryborough is super proud of. It’s gotten to the point that residents want to rename their basketball facility -- the “Maryborough Sports Leisure Centre” -- in Dellavedova’s honor, according to the Washington Post:

“Maryborough Sports Leisure Centre” is not as catchy as “Dellavedova Dome.”

With Matthew Dellavedova fever sweeping the U.S., thanks to the Cleveland guard’s sudden prominence in the NBA Finals, it should come as no surprise that his small Australian hometown is bursting with pride. In fact, residents there are pushing to officially bestow a new name on the town’s basketball facility: the “Dellavedova Dome.”
Given that Dellavedova’s hometown, Maryborough, has a population of less than 8,000, he has easily become the biggest international star the town has ever produced. And let’s face it, the “Maryborough Sports Leisure Centre” doesn’t have much of a ring to it, anyway.
And from the looks of it, this might actually happen -- and fast:
Mark Johnson, an official from the regional government of which Maryborough is a part, told an Australian radio station (via Melbourne’s Herald Sun) that “there is a process to go through in terms of naming assets.” But he signaled that the process may be expedited in this case, saying, “I think this might be a fairly unique circumstance.”
“Dellavedova Dome” sounds good. But might I suggest...“Dellavedova Thunderdome?” Hey, quit throwing tomatoes at me.
