Kanye West is probably among a handful of Americans with any sort of interest in the Pan American Games. And if it were up to Canadians, he wouldn’t care at all.
Canadians are angry over Kanye West closing the Pan American Games
Canucks are saying “no day” to Mr. “All Day.”

A Change.org petition has been made against the Toronto 2015 organizing committee’s decision to pick the Chicago superstar as the main performer for the closing ceremonies on July 26. Incensed that their fellow Canucks are being bypassed, the petition has gathered over 50,000 of the 75,000 supporters it requested.
Listing a number of prominent Canadian music acts, some neighbors to the North want to see a change ASAP.
The Toronto Pan Am games have proven to be very important for Torontonians this year and have triggered a unified sense of pride in our city. It would only be just to ask a proud Torontonian (or even a Canadian for that matter) in the music industry to perform, such as Drake, Walk Off The Earth, Feist, Metric, Shania Twain, deadmau5, Crystal Castles, Zeds Dead, The Weeknd, Peaches, K’naan, and many many more! The options for Toronto artists are far from limited and choosing someone like Kanye West raises several concerns among the people. Why was a local artist or group not chosen and supported, just as our local athletes are throughout the games?
The petition is surprising for two reasons:
1. The fact that the Toronto Organizing Committee couldn’t just pick Canadian music artists for their closing ceremonies
2. The fact that many Canadians even care about the games after local enthusiasm for them was relatively nonexistent. Since the Pan Am games have started, however, Canucks have flocked to their TV screens after an impressive start to the games by their countrymen and women, producing unexpectedly big ratings.
Even if they are successful at stopping Kanye from closing the games, Canadians will still have to deal with the fact that Pitbull is scheduled to perform. And what’s the point of protesting Kanye if you are still stuck with Pitbull?
