The Mariners were very excited about Hisashi Iwakuma’s no-hitter, as his teammates mobbed him on the mound to celebrate. If you look closely at the celebration, you might notice one player is wearing an interesting hat.
Felix Hernandez wore a novelty ‘Kuma Bear’ hat during Hisashi Iwakuma’s no hitter

— Seattle Mariners (@Mariners) August 12, 2015 Yes that is Felix Hernandez and yes that is a novelty “Kuma Bear” hat the Mariners gave away in April. Kuma means bear in Japanese so the Mariners gave away 20,000 novelty hats. Hernandez apparently had one on hand and found the perfect time to wear it. He didn’t just wear it during the celebration either.
Hah!!! @RealKingFelix had his Kuma Bear Hat on in the dugout!!! #heyitworked
— Angie Mentink (@AngieMentink) August 12, 2015 With how superstitious baseball players are, Felix obviously needs to wear that every time Iwakuma starts from now on.
