Trailing 41-38 late in the third quarter and needing a big play on third-and-13 the Wofford Terriers called a reverse ... then it got weird.
Wofford used a reverse, a lateral and a pass on the same play just to gain 2 yards

There is a lot going on here. Reverses, laterals, broken tackles and more. Let’s break it down in a little more detail. It all started innocently enough, The RB took the handoff and dished it to the WR on the reverse. Standard.
And that’s where things got interesting. The WR decided to lateral the ball back to the quarterback. Maybe it was intentional and a reverse flea flicker like Memphis ran earlier in the day. Or maybe the WR thought he was about to be tackled so instinctively he just chucked it to the QB.
Without knowing the call, but watching the players, it looks intentional. The QB doesn’t appear caught off guard and catches the ball easily and ready to throw. The only problem was the play was absolutely doomed.
The play may have been scripted up to that point. What happened after doesn’t seem like it was part of the plan. Wofford quarterback Evan Jacks avoids a couple of tackles and manages to unload/lateral/pass the ball outside to Ray Smith. That didn’t help much as defenders were staring down down Smith.
From there Smith did a fine job to avoid a tackle or two and salvage some yardage. Four different players touched the ball, there was a reverse, a possible intended flea flicker and a scrambling pass. It was chaos that dwindled down to a standard 2-yard gain in the play-by-play.
