Here’s an Aussie Rules player kicking the ball directly into a ref’s face


This comes from the AFL Round 21 matchup between St. Kilda and Geelong in late August. Let’s break down what happened here:
In Aussie rules you score 6 points for kicking it through the middle goalposts -- so the player did the right thing. However, he didn’t need to hit someone in the face. Hitting someone in the face does not award extra points, despite Australia’s reputation for being a dangerous and ruthless place.
Steve Johnson DEFINITELY meant to kick it at this guy. There’s no concrete evidence, but I mean ... look at it.
