Last month, LeBron James said that this foundation is pairing up with the University of Akron to sponsor 1,100 scholarships for the kids in his Akron, Ohio, I Promise program.
LeBron James is helping parents in Ohio earn their GED

Every single kid who finish my program will go to college for FREE! #Tryingtomakeadifference @LJFamFoundation
— LeBron James (@KingJames) August 13, 2015 Now LeBron is taking his efforts a step further. Through another partnership, this time with Project Learn of Summit Community, the parents of the children in LeBron’s program will be eligible to “receive financial and emotional support to obtain high school equivalency credentials and learn other life skills,” according to a report by Cleveland.com.
Participating adults will also receive the following from LeBron himself, per the report:
Adults in the program will receive an inspirational letter from James, Hewlett-Packard laptops they can keep if they finish the classes and free bus passes and parking to attend class.
Michelle Campbell, executive director of the LeBron James Family Foundation, explained their motivation for including the parents in all of this in a news release:
“This is an opportunity to help our parents make strides in their own academic careers so they are better equipped to help our students keep their educational promises. We can’t reach our students without their parents’ support, so this program is monumental for our families and their futures.”
Big ups to LeBron and his foundation out in Ohio -- great NBA offseason work.
