If you’re holding a three-point lead with time running out and your opponent pulls up from just inside the midcourt line, you have to feel pretty good about your chances to win. You have to feel GREAT about your chances to at least go to overtime with the opponent needing a prayer just to make the tying shot. It would be unfathomable to lose in regulation from that scenario ... unless you’re Appalachian State.
Georgia Southern wins on 4-point play from near midcourt with less than a second left

Trailing 100-97 with less than a second to play, Georgia Southern’s Mike Hughes pulled up from deep to try to tie it.

— Brant Wilkerson-New (@BrantWSJ) January 26, 2016 For anyone not named Stephen Curry, the chances of making that shot are incredibly low. Hughes not only drained it, but drew the foul in the process. He made the free throw with 0.8 seconds left to turn a certain loss into the most unlikely victory.
