Jameis Winston vouched for Buccaneers coaches just days before they got fired
“We need to get our guys to put in the work like the coaches put in.”

— Dirk Cut Her (@JameisInDaCut) January 4, 2016 Days before the surprise firing of Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith, quarterback Jameis Winston defended the Bucs coaching staff from the podium.
“When you look at what we came from, if we didn’t have good coaches, if the coaches weren’t on our butt, we wouldn’t have won six games, I guarantee you,” said Winston during a Sunday postgame press conference. “Because I guarantee you that some of our coaches want it more than some of our players, and that’s the bad part. That’s the bad part.”
“Our coaches want it. They want it, I guarantee you. They’re up there working hours, don’t get to see their families, so I’m not here to talk about no coaches. I know our coaches want it.”
“We need to get our guys to put in the work like the coaches put in,” said Winston.
Other players seem to agree with Winston's assessment. On Wednesday night, linebacker Lavonte David lashed out, calling the move "stupid."
“We can’t even have a consistent coach,” he wrote on Twitter. “3 coaches in 5 yrs.”
