On Tuesday, he hit a grand slam that put the Chicago Cubs up 7-0 in Game 6 of the World Series. That’s a football score. Again — and this is important — he is 22.
Here are pieces of information about this home run that I found pretty awesome as a sports fan and pretty humbling as an aging human adult.
- He’s the first Cubs player with a World Series grand slam. Again, he’s 22.
2. People this young don’t hit grand slams in the World Series that often. Reminder: He’s 22.
3. And no one hits grand slams in such important games, no matter how old they are.
4. Addison Russell is 22, and he’s like ... really, really good.
5. He’s been doing it all postseason, too.
6. He’s 22, and he’s still getting better. This is about the farthest he’s ever hit a baseball.
7. One day earlier, he was a ninja turtle for Halloween.
Good job, Russell. Thank you for giving me a cool baseball play to watch and some existential dread about what I’ve accomplished in my life at my age.
