Rajai Davis answers Cleveland fans’ prayers with game-tying HR off Aroldis Chapman

The Chicago Cubs were sitting on a three-run lead, needing just four outs to win the World Series. The Indians changed that with just two swings of the bat. Rajai Davis came through with the big blow — a two-run, game-tying homer off Aroldis Chapman.

It was a stunning turn of events. The Cubs had turned the game over to Chapman, their ace reliever, to clinch the team’s first World Series victory since 1908. Instead, the first two batters he faced doubled and homered to tie the game.

The Davis home run was especially stunning considering his postseason struggles coming into the game. He was batting just .121 in the playoffs before turning on that Chapman fastball.

Chapman seemed about as stunned as everyone in Chicago.

With Davis’ home run, this is the first Game 7 of the World Series to head to the ninth inning tied since 1991.
