For the first time since 1908, the Chicago Cubs are World Series champions. They needed extra innings to do it, but the Cubs did it. They beat the Indians 8-7 in the 10th inning of Game 7 to clinch the title.

Carl Edwards Jr. started as the man on the mound to get the final out for Chicago. He took over in the bottom of the 10th and recorded two quick outs. The ending wasn’t without drama, however. That would have been way too easy for a classic game like this. Instead, Brandon Guyer drew a two-out walk to bring the tying run to the plate.
That tying run was Rajai Davis, who launched a game-tying two-run home run in the eighth inning. He didn’t tie the game this time, but did single home a run to make it 8-7.
In stepped Mike Montgomery. He became the third Cubs pitcher to try and close out the Indians. Unlike Aroldis Chapman and Edwards before him, Montgomery got the job done. He was helped by a wonderful defensive play from Kris Bryant.
Cleveland’s Michael Martinez hit a tough soft ground ball to third. Bryant needed to make a great play on the ball and a strong throw to get a speedy baserunner. He did just that.
The save was the first MLB save of Montgomery’s career. He picked a hell of a time for it.
The Cubs are now enjoying a zero-year World Series drought.
