Look, let’s just say this up front.
Hi, here’s a ridiculous Wayne Gretzky stat
Jaromir Jagr’s feat seems small now.

What Jaromir Jagr did on Tuesday was incredible. It really was. By tallying three assists, the Florida Panthers winger tied Mark Messier for the second-most points in NHL history with 1,887 markers.
It helps that Jagr and Messier both played well into their 40s. But that’s an accomplishment nonetheless. So you might have two questions.
1. Can they catch Wayne Gretzky?
He has 2,857 points. So, no.
2. Can you please just get to the ridiculous Wayne Gretzky stat you teased us with?
Sure. Here it is.
I know my editors will hate me for dedicating an entire post to one stat, but I don’t really have much else to say. Mainly because I’m having trouble picking my jaw up from the floor.
HE WAS 28 YEARS OLD.
28.
TWENTY-EIGHT.
This is what Wayne Gretzky does. When players reach big milestones, his stats shadow looms over them with a smirk on its face.
Wayne Gretzky is the “Well, actually” of the hockey world.
