On Thursday, Serena Williams announced her engagement to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian on, well, Reddit. Specifically, she announced it on r/isaidyes, a subreddit that appears to be recently created by Williams herself for people to share their own engagement stories. Here’s what she posted:

TIL Serena Williams has been dating Reddit’s Alexis Ohanian for at least a year.

(Note: “kn0thing” is Ohanian’s Reddit handle, and his response was, “And you made me the happiest man on the planet.” And disclosure: Ohanian hosted a web video series on SB Nation’s sister site, The Verge, for two years.)
As of writing, her post is the only sincere one — there have been at least four posts that have been less kind to the sentiment of r/isaidyes — but there will likely be more to come, because what a hell of a way to promote a subreddit. Williams and Ohanian have reportedly been dating for over a year now, and if you didn’t know that, you have liberty to drop a “TIL” (that is, “today I learned”) joke on the internet. In terms of other Reddit-related jokes, this one from writer Erik Malinowski might be the only good one:
