New Jersey Devils rookie Miles Wood might not win the Calder Trophy this year, but that wouldn’t be the highlight of his rookie season anyway. Alex Ovechkin made sure of that on Thursday.

Better late than never!
Before the Capitals and Devils squared off, Wood’s father went on Facebook Live and told a funny story about Wood’s infatuation with Ovechkin as a kid.
“When Miles was about eight or nine-years-old, he sent a hockey card to Alex Ovechkin,” Randy Wood said. “He said if you don’t sign this and send it back to me when I make it to the NHL I’m going to give you a big bodycheck. Miles never got the signed card back so I’m waiting for that big check on Alex.”
Ovechkin apparently heard about it, and fearing for his own safety, hastily signed the fan mail for Wood.
To Miles,
Take it easy tonight!!!

Naturally, Ovi met up with Wood in a bathrobe after the game to apologize and hug it out.
