Marquette student pays Providence the $10 he owes them for distracting a free throw shooter

A Marquette student took a different approach to free throw distractions during a match between his school and Providence. In a written letter addressed to Providence, Jamey Schilling says he yelled out a $10 bribe at player Kris Dunn when he attempted a free throw. Dunn missed the shot, so Schilling filled out a $10 check. (It was sent to Providence instead of Dunn “to avoid scandals,” as Schilling wrote):

The letter, in case it’s not legible:

Dear Providence Athletics,

I’m a Marquette student, and was in attendance for last Wednesday’s at Marquette. At the conclusion of the game, as Kris Dunn approached the free throw line I screamed “I will literally give you $10 if you miss this shot.” He missed the shot, and as a man of my word, I now owe him $10. Considering the payment of student athletes is a hot issue right now, I’ve made the attached check out to Providence Athletics to avoid scandals. (Sorry Kris!)

Regardless of the outcome of the game, Providence is still a great team, and Dunn is an amazing player. I wish both Kris and the team the best of luck the rest of the season. Congratulations on a job well Dunn.

Marquette saw this letter and sent Schilling a letter of its own, one that commended him for his gesture (plus a free Marquette store gift card):

That is indeed a classy free throw distraction ... but it still doesn’t beat pretend childbirth.
