Miami Marlins manager Don Mattingly has instituted a no facial hair policy for his team in spring training this season, which is either an old-fashioned (and more than likely out of date) attempt at team unity, or a desperate ploy to make sure no one ever sports a better moustache than he did during his playing days or, seen below, as an assistant coach.

Mattingly was once benched by the Yankees for not cutting his hair during his playing days, although it doesn’t sound like any of the Marlins will take such a stand.
Of course, there’s always a chance Mattingly actually means sideburns, as you might remember from his famed Simpsons appearance.
Either way, R.I.P. to all the wonderful beards in Miami, gone too soon.
