Soccer player is somehow fine after falling into bottomless pit right next to the field

Someone dropped this into the SB Nation staff chat room and about three seconds into watching the video I thought I had just witnessed a man die. Judging by the collective gasp of the crowd — and the “OH SHIT” from the filmer — everyone in the stadium thought the same thing.

But nope that’s just Nathan Ake, a Chelsea prospect on loan at Watford, vastly underestimating the drop and plunging off the side of the pitch. He gets up and appears to be OK! Thanks god. But why put a drop like that right beside the field?
