David Ortiz has finally decided to retire at the end of the 2016 season. On Monday, in his final home opener ever, the Red Sox went all out for their beloved slugger.

In Ortiz’s final home opener, the Red Sox’s tribute to him was perfect.


First, they had Ortiz’s daughter, Alex, sing the national anthem.

Understandably, Ortiz got a little emotional.

Then, to throw out the first pitch, Ortiz was joined by other great Boston athletes -- Ty Law for the Patriots, Bobby Orr for the Bruins and Bill Russell for the Celtics.
