Geraldo Rivera’s hilariously clueless national championship tweet is technically correct

James Dator has been covering a wide range of sports for SB Nation for over a decade, with a special focus on the NFL.

Geraldo Rivera had a sports take following Villanova’s win over North Carolina in the national championship, and it was likely the most stupid postgame take you’ll see anywhere. I am in no position to chide someone for getting North Carolina schools confused, trust me, but confusing the Tar Heels with the Panthers is some next-level stuff.
At least his tweet was on-brand. He used the right hashtag for the national championship and everything. It’s just pretty mean to the Panthers to make them lose two championships in different sports in the same year. Wait ... this makes Rivera’s take correct. The Panthers didn’t lose the national championship and Villanova did win -- so, good take I guess.
Naturally the Panthers responded.

And then, several hours later, he deleted the tweet and corrected himself:
#CarolinaTarheels didn't lose #NationalChampionship #Villanova won it.
