Brandon Phillips spooked Juan Uribe with a fake hidden ball trick
And now, what I think went through the minds of Juan Uribe, Brandon Phillips and an umpire, when Phillips tricked Uribe into thinking he got tagged out:
[May 19, Cleveland at Cincinnati. Juan Uribe’s chilling at second base, waiting for opportunity to run]
Uribe: “Ah, ball on Davis. I can relax for a bit.”
Phillips: “I’mma get this fool with the ol’ hidden ball trick.”
[Phillips runs and tags Uribe when he’s off second base]
Uribe: “Wh-what just happened?”
Phillips: “Ha ha! Gotcha! There’s no ball in my glove!”
Umpire: “HAHAHAHAHA COMEDY”
Uribe: “Oh man, my heart’s pumping. Whoo. Oka-- oh, Davis got another ball.”
[smiles fade on everyone’s faces]
Phillips: “That was fun. Anyway, we’re still down four runs.”
