A guy who doesn’t look all that much like former Syracuse basketball player Malachi Richardson, posed as Malachi Richardson and fooled a ton of people including a pair of 20-year-olds who bought it enough to take pictures with him.
Syracuse fans were totally fooled by this Malachi Richardson imposter
Malachi Richardson’s sort of doppelganger took the joke all the way.

The impostor held to form as pedestrians asked him questions as he stepped off his flight from Syracuse to Newark, according to the Daily Orange. He told people he didn’t care which team drafted him, which to be fair was probably true considering he isn’t a basketball player.
He even signed a ball in Richardson’s name.

Wearing an “Always reppin’” Syracuse shirt, the phony video taped a message to a stewardess’ son by request, and took another video with a mother and her son, encouraging him to stay in school. Which to be fair was a nice message.
@KingMali23 did I take a random picture with someone impersonating you? pic.twitter.com/haR1mnxGby

This is like a very strange form of identity theft where the impostor gained nothing but a good laugh. Is this a crime? I’m not sure. But the real Richardson doesn’t seem to mind.

Make sure you know who you’re talking to before letting them sign your ball.
