David Ross hit his 100th career home run Friday, an obviously special milestone for the Cubs’ veteran catcher. His teammates wanted to celebrate by dumping a cooler full of Gatorade on him. They almost screwed up in a pretty big way.
The Cubs almost accidentally dumped a cooler of ammonia on David Ross

Why didn't #Cubs Ross get doused during post-game TV interview? Because Szczur grabbed cooler filled with ammonia, not water or Gatorade

Anyone who has ever played sports knows all about the order of the coolers on the bench. It goes Gatorade, water, toxic chemicals. Wait, that can’t be right.
Actually, it apparently is! It sounds incredibly weird to have a cooler full of ammonia just hanging around with things designed to hydrate, but this is apparently a common practice. Ammonia soaked towels placed on the back of the neck make you feel nice and cool. Really.
There’s some question as to how good of a practice this is, given that this method doesn’t actually lower someone’s core body temperature, but it at least helps them feel a little better.
