The Cavaliers tied the NBA’s 3-point record with a pass off an opponent’s head
It’s a travesty that Mo Williams doesn’t get an assist for this.
This was the Cavaliers' 23rd made three-pointer in Game 2, after Mo Williams' pass deflected straight to Iman Shumpert. It tied an all-time record for threes in a game, playoffs or regular season, that the Cavaliers would surpass later in the quarter with 25 triples. But on a night where Cleveland hit the most threes ever in a single game, this pass was the most impressive thing. Williams somehow threw it off his head and DIRECTLY to an open three-pointer shooter. What are the odds!?
The true travesty, though, is that Williams didn’t receive an assist for this, since it was deflected. This is honestly an outrage. Hopefully Adam Silver will roll into the league office on Thursday morning and immediately award Williams an assist for it. If not, then I’m willing to go out on a limb and declare that this is the greatest pass not counted as an assist in NBA history. (This probably isn’t true but if I say it confidently enough then it sounds correct.)
Here’s the sad photo, saying no one assisted on the shot. Try not to cry.
