Craig Sager's first time working an NBA Finals game was surely an exciting experience for him, and an honorable one for everyone who watched in the arena and on TV. Before Game 6, however, Sager made the night special for someone else: Pittsburgh Panthers RB James Conner, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma back in December, and who recently announced he was cancer-free.
The two of them got to talk about their experiences through FaceTime, thanks to a friend of Conner’s, per ESPN:
Conner’s mentor and family friend Mike Gallagher was shooting Game 6 of the Finals (sic) for WJET in Conner’s hometown of Erie, Pennsylvania, and said he was chatting before the game with Sager, whom Gallagher said was familiar with Conner’s story and asked if he could call the football player.
