I’ve had one dog in my life, and I heard she died from my mom over the phone. I had long since moved away, and on trips home Maddie’s age showed — she’d stumble down the two steps to get outside, her legs buckling while she peed. When I heard, I was sad, but I felt removed.
Then I read NOTABLE DOGS IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL AND ELSEWHERE by our editorial director Spencer Hall, and I balled my fucking eyes out. If you’ve ever lost a dog I recommend you read it, too.
