Phil Mickelson gave a volunteer a signed glove after accidentally bonking him in the head with a ball

On Thursday, at the Memorial Tournament, Phil Mickelson’s tee shot at the 15th hole got a little dangerous when it hit a volunteer directly on the head, causing the ball to roll into the rough. The moment alarmed folks, especially Mickelson, who approached the man with an apology and a signed glove in his hand that read “I’m so sorry.” He turned out to be okay, albeit with a small bump on his head, because hats aren’t that protective.
“If your head was a touch softer, I’d be in the fairway,” Mickelson joked.
It’s a small reminder that golf can be a dangerous sport sometimes -- just ask the woman that had a much rougher (and bloodier) experience getting bonked with Tony Finau’s golf ball.
