Alex Rodriguez rips an RBI double and walks off to a standing ovation in his final Yankees game

Alex Rodriguez played his final game as a New York Yankee on Friday night, and while there was no fairy-tale ending with a walk-off home run, it was a great night for Rodriguez and the fans. It even included a surprise cameo appearance at third base and ended with a standing ovation from the crowd.

Rodriguez, who is shifting into a special advisory role with the Yankees should he not sign with another team, got the night off to a good start. He batted third and lined a double into right field in his first at-bat to record what could be the final hit and RBI of his career.

Rodriguez said he asked to start at third base, but Yankees manager Joe Girardi declined. He did get one final appearance in the field, however, taking over at the hot corner to start the ninth inning. He seemed genuinely excited at the chance as he ran out of the dugout and into the field.

After one out, the Yankees subbed him out, allowing Rodriguez to leave the field to a standing ovation.

He also made sure to get a little souvenir for his final time taking the field as a Yankee.
