Watch the United States sweep the women’s 100m hurdles for the first time in Olympic history

James Lang-USA TODAY Sports

The American women dominated the 100m hurdles final! Brianna Rollins won gold, Nia Ali took the silver and Kristi Castlin earned the bronze. And it almost didn’t happen. This is how close second, third and fourth place were.

Although Rollins knew her medal was all but guaranteed, she and her teammates huddled in suspense to await the official announcement. Their hopes came to fruition as all three of them won medals.

It’s almost an understatement to say that the American women shattered expectations. It was the first time in the history of the event that a country swept all three medals!

Their dominance becomes more apparent when you realize that Kendra Harrison, an American woman who broke the 100m world record last month, didn’t even qualify to make the team.
