No one could have scripted Vin Scully’s perfect final call and game
Thank you, Vin.
On Sunday, Charlie Culberson ended the Dodgers’ game against the Rockies in the 10th inning with a walkoff home run, clinching the NL West and a spot in the postseason for Los Angeles. And more importantly, the moment before that — a tied game in extra innings — was a perfect situation for yet another iconic Vin Scully call, his last at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers corralled the infielder as he made his way to home plate. The team doused each other in champagne and started wearing their divisional championship shirts. Then they all turned to the same direction and looked up at Scully’s seat.
Being interviewed on the field, manager Dave Roberts said, “Vin, we love you and this is for you.”
At the end of the game, the attention focused to Vin, who once again thanked the fans for their decades of support. And if that wasn’t enough to make every baseball fan cry, Scully and his wife stood up and gave the fans one more gift — a recorded version of “Wind Beneath My Wings” sung by Scully himself.
