Draymond Green and Klay Thompson will wear special sneakers for MLK Day

In the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Warriors’ forward Draymond Green will sport sneakers exclusively designed by the Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality in Golden State’s holiday NBA Finals rematch against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The sneakers read “Sideline Racism” along the sides of the shoe in Warriors’ gold and blue colors.
Warriors All-Star Klay Thompson is also sporting an incredibly stylish black and gold pair of kicks, titled ANTA America’s limited edition “KT2 MLK.” The Black History Month acronym “BHM,” per Thompson’s PR team, is integrated into the tribal design on the inner fabric, lining the ankle of the shoe.
It’s safe to say Thompson’s sneaker has the edge in the style department, but this isn’t Green’s first rodeo.
He wore a different pair of RISE designed sneakers in December and tweeted the kicks as a show of solidarity alongside NFL players.
He later said wearing the sneakers served to “raise awareness, to keep the conversation going on the things that need to be changed.”
“I mean, if you look at stories in the media, something comes up and it just floats away,” Green said after wearing the sneakers during Golden State’s Dec. 3 win over Phoenix. “It’s just the world we live in, and it’s the same thing with real issues. And so I think it’s something where we need to continue to raise awareness, and we just want to do our part and try to raise that awareness.”
RISE is a non-profit owned by Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, dedicated to “improving race relations and driving social progress through the unifying power of sports.” What better way to bring awareness to any cause than unleashing some fire sneakers with a message printed on the side.
