The Capitals beat the Oilers on Saturday night, but that’s the footnote in this story. Before the game Alex Ovechkin was spotted on the streets of Edmonton buying clothes for a homeless man in need. When he was asked about it the Capitals captain downplayed it all.

“I think every human can do something, a coat or a shirt or whatever.”

”It was nothing. I just went to the store with [Evgeny Kuznetsov and Dmitry Orlov]. I saw the guy — no shirt. Went to the store to buy him a sweater, coat and a hat.”
Temperatures are dropping below freezing at night in Edmonton, with snow expected next week. Ovechkin might be playing down the whole thing, but the difference it made is clear. The man was stunned by Ovechkin’s generosity — but again, Ovechkin didn’t really want to talk about it.
“He was like, ‘Are you serious?’ He was a little bit shocked. Again, we don’t have to concentrate on this moment right now. It’s something I think if you saw a guy almost naked out there with a cold temperature. I think every human can do something, a coat or a shirt or whatever.”
This is so cool.
