GQ Magazine is releasing four different covers in honor of its end-of-year awards, and Colin Kaepernick is front and center as the magazine’s “Citizen of the Year.”
Colin Kaepernick named GQ’s ‘Citizen of the Year’

Kaepernick is making the cover alongside Stephen Colbert (Bad Hombre of the Year), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman of the Year), and Kevin Durant (Champion of the Year). GQ’s editors explained their pick of Kaepernick:
While Kap maintains his silent protest, he collaborated with GQ on a special project: a wide-ranging series of interviews with ten of his closest confidants and supporters—including rapper J. Cole, filmmaker Ava DuVernay, legendary artist Harry Belafonte, and more. Together, they explore Colin Kaepernick’s actions, provide insight into his world right now, and explain why there’s more work to be done.
The cover is accompanied by the cover story, “Colin Kaepernick will not be silenced,” which explores where he is now and a desire to reclaim the narrative of why his protest began in the first place.
People close to Kaepernick give their perspective on what he means to them, and what the movement he helped propel into the national conversation is doing across the country. Definitely give it a read if you want to better understand how an NFL quarterback will leave a legacy far beyond anything on the field.
