It seemed a curious move when the 49ers hired former All-Pro safety John Lynch as their general manager this winter. After all, Lynch’s post-playing days were spent in Fox’s announcing booth, not working his way through a franchise’s front office.
John Lynch used to do mock drafts ‘for fun’ before becoming 49ers GM
Lynch’s credentials go beyond his All-Pro career and into the depth of football nerdery.

But San Francisco may have known something the rest of the world didn’t; it turns out he’s also a huge football nerd.
Lynch will get his first crack at running a real draft this April. His 49ers have the second overall pick and a gaping void of talent across a roster that went 2-14 last season. With zero quarterbacks currently under contract, there’s a good chance his mock drafts for 2017 have names like Mitch Trubisky, Deshaun Watson, and DeShone Kizer slathered in highlighter ink.
