The University of Maryland’s sports radio station was facing a difficult position. It needed to raise $8,000 to increase their budget for coverage of Maryland away games for future student broadcasters, and with just over 24 hours to go they were $1,255 short of their goal. Then ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt came to the rescue in the most chill way possible.

James Dator has been covering a wide range of sports for SB Nation for over a decade, with a special focus on the NFL.
A Maryland native, Van Pelt graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in radio/television and film. Since leaving the school he’s always been there for the station, routinely donating to help its operation and encouraging others to do the same.
Operating budget is often a concern for WMUC, but not when SVP is around. His generosity has been astounding.
This ensures the station will be able to keep broadcasting away games, which gives students critical experience they will need to find jobs in their field. This is just awesome.
UPDATE: Thanks to the donations, WMUC Sports got an extension on their fundraising period for another 24 hours, so they can continue to raise more money for the station and the students who run it.
