Lest you think the NHL playoffs are the only bastion of rough-and-tumble postseason hockey, two AHL teams crossed all sorts of lines during a brawl on Friday. And it wasn’t even the playoffs yet.
Minor league hockey player ejected for throwing punches from the bench
An AHL game got nasty.

The Manitoba Moose were visiting the Cleveland Monsters when a scrum made its way to the Moose bench. At that point, Moose player Darren Kramer started throwing punches at players from the bench.
Kramer was tossed from the game with a 10-minute misconduct, and fellow Moose player Patrice Cormier earned 12 minutes in penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct and roughing. You might recall Cormier’s name from an infamous hit in juniors that landed him a lengthy suspension.
After the bench incident, this is what the game’s penalty sheet looked like.
The two sides combined for 77 penalty minutes at that point.
