College baseball player breaks his dang metal bat on a single


You would expect wooden bats to break during a game, something that’s happened plenty of times in MLB. Breaking a metal bat (which were introduced in 2011) seems much rarer, judging from the fact that people get surprised at the sight of these things. It’s not entirely impossible though, if the bat’s really old and worn.
On Saturday, Florida’s J.J. Schwartz broke his metal bat and hit a two-run single to put his team up 7-0 over Vanderbilt. You can see which part of the bat broke in this fantastic photo from Mike Strasinger:
