Paul Pierce’s knowledge about basketball could fill tomes — but he never learned how to use technology. Now, on his retirement, we need to look back and appreciate just how vexing the internet was to him during his 19 seasons in the NBA.
Remembering Paul Pierce’s legacy as someone who never really got technology

James Dator has been covering a wide range of sports for SB Nation for over a decade, with a special focus on the NFL.
He never learned how to use emojis.
Instead pierce just searched for “Rocket emoji” and posted the image on his account.
His photos always let you know which cell phone provider he used, and how much battery he had left.
Sometimes he wouldn’t even give you the photo, you’d have to click his Yahoo search to find it.
We remember the time Pierce launched his Instagram account from China.
We know because he just searched “the tru” and was connected to a Chinese carrier.
Most years we’d get a fun, low-resolution Thanksgiving meme.
We became a part of Pierce’s life by knowing how many unread Facebook notifications he had.
And we remember the photos we’ve lost over the years, because Pierce hosted all his early images on yfrog, which no longer exists.
Now he’s retired and still confused about how to use the internet. Paul Pierce is all of our dads. We’ll miss you.
