The Red Hook Crit is a cycling race in Brooklyn that’s developed a recent history of horrific crashes, and this weekend was no different.

It’s unclear what started this massive pileup, but it appears from the video that the cyclist in white fell — prompting a massive pileup shortly after the race began on Saturday night.
I’ve tried counting the carnage several times, and it appears that 24 cyclists got caught in the crash. The official race finish shows only three cyclists leaving the race on the first lap, so credit where its due for racing through the pain.
You might remember the Red Hook Crit from 2016 when a stalled pace scooter caused a similarly horrific pileup.
And this is why the Crit deserves being regarded as one of the most dangerous races in cycling.
